Bringin’ It Back (Liebster Award)

Hi all, I couldn’t have been happier to, after finishing my lengthy Code Geass review, be celebrated with a nomination. It’s the Liebster Award, it has come back again . . . WOOT! Today’s nomination comes from HimAwARi of One Stop for all EnterTainmenT who if I am correct just started up their blog in June. Though still early, there are a few notable top anime lists for certain genres, a couple reviews, and some other life posts for you all to check out on their blog. Keep up the great work, and thank you so much for this nomination!

Now let’s get these questions rollin’:

          1. Favorite YouTuber

Dammit. Alright, I’ll have to go with Slightly Otaku. They are a zany trio of anime fans that unbox anime. The three are hilarious, and function best when they’re all there, but due to a recent hospital fee(s), they’ve had to cut back and sell off a few. I recently bought a Psycho-Pass limited edition box from Adrian, the one who owns the collection, to support his channel. I think they’re back in business now! Even though videos aren’t put up often, I still have been getting kick outta them for what, 2.5 years now? They’re fantastic, and you should join their 3,224 subscribers as soon as you can for instant hilarity!

          2. Cats or Dogs?

Cats. Most dogs just . . . bother me.

          3. Most favorite anime opening or ending song.

Wow, you’re really on a roll, aren’t you? Hehe, naw, just kidding. At this exact moment, I can’t stop listening to Kalafina’s “Heavenly Blue.” It’s the opening for ALDNOAH.ZERO.

          4. Most favorite quote

This one’s actually from an anime which I’m sure you’ve all heard of: Ouran High School Host Club. In one episode, the observant Kyoya -senpai goes on to explain the pros of having different personas at the Host Club, to which he remarks, “It’s all about variety.” I’ve taken this quote to heart ever since I noticed it the second time around, and have applied it to trying new, different things.

          5. An anime/manga/movie character you resemble the most. (not physical features)

At this moment and probably for the foreseeable future, Shu Ouma. Introverted, creative with music, and usually thrown into mayhem when he’d rather be alone . . . unless he’s quietly in the club room with a cute girl . . .

          6. Most favorite soundtrack.

Right now, since everything seems to be temporary with me, I’ve still got the kicks from Code Geass‘s orchestral epicness! I’ve been listening to this thing with a few friends as we played some RPG. Fantastic stuff ~

          7.  Swords or Guns?

It depends, really. Mami Tomoe – bring out the gun fight! Sinon, you too! But then you got Kirito and Tales of franchise. Hmm, I’ll have to go with guns for now . . . I mean, swords . . . sure . . .

          8. How were you introduced to anime?

Like the Otaku Judge said, “we have porn to thank for my love of anime.” For a better “grasp” on the situation, read here.

          9. Which is your favorite sports?

Swimming. I’m on the small team where I live and it’s pretty fun.

          10. On a range of 1-10 rate on how much you socialize with people.

I’d say I’m a solid 5. Come up and chat with me and we’re all fine and dandy, but I won’t go out of my way and force myself into conversation if I don’t have to.

          11. Which genre do you prefer the most?

Do I prefer? Well, I prefer any anime that actually gives me a complete god damn story at this point xD! But I tend to lean towards that mind-blowing or set in a dystopia.

Now for the nominees. Since I’ve already nominated people in the past, I’ve just got a few, and here they are:

It’s Real Neat to Have Blogger Friends (Real Neat Blog Award)

Hello all! Just when I was thinking of how dull my reviews can be at times, JekoJeko over at UEM! reminded me of my creativity in the form of a nomination – The Real Neat Blog Award! So regardless of the ceiling-high stack of reviews I still have to write, I will take this little break graciously. Thank you very much, JekoJeko.

UEM! brings forth tiny details hidden in anime and intricately weaves them with “unfettered and unnecessary opinions” to form truly thought-provoking posts. But whether it’s Christian beliefs, first impressions or great biased reviews, JekoJeko always manages to keep me wanting more content, and isn’t that the goal of a blogger? UEM! is a new key Aniblogger site in the community, and you should do yourself the favor by following them around (click here)!

JekoJeko asked seven questions as part of the award criteria, and here are my answers:

  1. Who or what got you to start watching your first anime?

I watched Ghibli movies, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Beyblade, and Yu-Gi-Oh all prior to my first anime, but I do not count them since at the time, I did not know they were anime, nor what anime even was.

Sadly, I didn’t have a buddy to get me into anime 😦 so I have been a lone wolf up until recently. What got me into anime was actually an incredibly embarrassing, cheek-burning question: What is hentai? After a totally appropriate Google search, I found Negima!? the Spring and Summer OVAs, and though they are nowhere close to actual hentai, the magic comedy and youth aspects made me crave more! I wrote a whole story about it here if you want more depth.

  1. What do you think is your most controversial opinion about anime/manga?

Honestly speaking, probably that The End of Evangelion is one of the most transformative and fresh breath-inducing films I’ve ever seen, and that the series is just as spectacular. It’s been one of the most controversial opinions to bomb the anime chat rooms and forums since 1997, but I think its messages of rebirth through death are inspiring (no, I’m not going to do anything crazy). I’m just saying, you can’t deny the weird vibes you get when Lilith Rei initiates the Human Instrumentality Project.

Also controversial, I think in order to start the Fate anime franchise you should start with Fate/Zero. There, I said it. Haters go hate.

  1. What song do you wish could be an anime opening or ending?

What a fun question! Let’s see, any Train songs like “Drive By” or “Mermaid” fit the bill for a fun show in my opinion. They’re upbeat and pretty catchy. I like it when folk, Irish, or classical music is reprised for anime to enhance the mood, so maybe something like that?

  1. Has a show ever impacted your beliefs or values in an important way?

Anything by Kyoto Animation has made me realize how delicate relationships and lives themselves are, and that life is so much more interesting with others. Additionally, works like Chu-2, Beyond the Boundary, and Free! showed me how literally beautiful and vast the world is. Every small vase on a windowsill; every miniscule patch of grass growing through the cracks of concrete; every scrunched little alley big enough for one only one car to pass through, so the other person pulls over, gets out and waves to the other like all’s right with the world, allowing them to pass first; every charming, wooden, traditional Japanese home as well as modern homes; All of it is present in KyoAni works, which taught me to be most of all humble.

  1. What’s the most exciting thing you’ve been a part of?

For most of my childhood, my siblings and were a band that performed Irish, fiddling, classical, and even pop music for organization banquets and meetings. In fact, we’ll play for a friend’s wedding in August. Though there have been rough times, it was at the very least thrilling in multiple ways, probably the highlight of excitement for my childhood. 🙂

Last year, high school, I formed a small orchestral group that performed at seasonal concerts and various ceremonies. We played pieces that I had written myself, which was an incredible honor to do so with my friends! I couldn’t thank people enough for the waves of positive feedback and standing ovations we have received! There were too many late nights of writing, though, so for now, we are on hold.

  1. Which show do you wish your life was more like?

“Honestly any show. Anything. I am so boring.”

I’ve always thought that life was boring, that I’m the kid in class waiting for the mass murderer to show up and blow up the entire school, to which I escape, meet a cool boy/girl, and we fight off the villain. That or the apocalypse. But then I started to realize, unless I’m the one receiving the mysterious powers or magical strengths, it would be a huge inconvenience and a horrible thing to wait through. I mean, my family and friends could die!

So now, like most everyone, I seek out the slice-of-life route. Perhaps Free! because I am in swimming, or even Kokoro Connect like Keatle had said in his nomination because of the close bonds with friends. I’ll live an enchanting yet ordinary high school life – ideal for anime . . .

But I’ll always be expecting something to happen, something to shake up the world.

Anything.

  1. What’s your biggest goal in life, and how do you plan to achieve it?

Ahh jeez, here’s the big question. What to do with my life? Well, I want to be successful and happy at the same time, but I do not know how to do that – yet. I haven’t settled on a career, but if it could involve anime in some way, that’d be great. I’m sorry I can’t answer this yet, but I’ll work hard and keep looking forward now!

Here are a few people that I’d like to pass the nomination on to, as I think you all have “Real Neat” blogs. I’d be thrilled if you accept the award!! (I’ve been trying to look for people who haven’t already been nominated that deserve it, and there’s a whole slew of you that are awesome :D)

Now for my seven questions I’d love to ask these amazing people:

  1. Are you absolutely content with your blog? Do you plan to add any new segments or features soon?
  2. Have you ever considered creating a YouTube channel?
  3. Do you find yourself reading more manga, playing more games, or watching more anime?
  4. What is the first anime that you recommend to a new person, considering that they are cool with any genre and episode length
  5. Do you prefer to buy anime limited or standard edition, if any?
  6. Borrowing this one from JekoJeko, which show do you wish your life was more like?
  7. What is one anime that you will defend to your death, if any, regardless of its understandable flaws?

Here are the rules for the Real Neat Blog Award. If you choose to accept, please leave a comment below with a link to your post so that I may read it!

  1. Put the award logo in your Blog
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you
  3. Thank the people who nominated you, linking their blogs
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, liking their blogs
  5. Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog)
  6. Ask the bloggers 7 new questions

That was tons of fun, but it’s over now :(. A thanks to JekoJeko one last time, because otherwise I’d still be swamped in the lost, unsaid words of future reviews! I hope you have enjoyed reading and until next time, this has been

Second Time Around (Sunshine Award)

Hey everyone, I’m back!

I have been nominated again by LitaKino and Chibi Majo for the Sunshine Award, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart as great bloggers and as even greater people. But more so, seeing the comments from my update and reading these nominations have made me realize something: I have friends, and I am thankful for that now more than ever.

When I started, I had one or two customers walk in, but then wonder back out only to be unsatisfied with my material. Now, however, all you guys waltz in, check out my reviews and other posts, and even chat with me a bit. I’m a small blog, and I know that this is a small (but surely growing) aniblogger community, but in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve realized that there’s a lot of heart behind each and every one of you – more than what our words in our posts can say!

So once again (sorry for the sappy speech), I extend my thanks to LitaKino and Chibi Majo for nominating me, but also for reminding me as to why I blog. Now, let’s laugh together and answer these questions, shall we!?

Since I’ve already nominated several others in my first post, and because I’m incredibly lazy, I’m just going to relax and answer the questions, sound good?

From LitaKino:

  1. What have you found blogging has bought to you?

FRIENDS! My writing has improved and I notice all of the minuscule details in anime, sure, but nothing beats good company! I have also begun to analyze works more efficiently instead of just tossing out praise like Halloween candy: credit is given where credit is deserved.

  1. What was your favorite childhood show growing up

Growing up, I watched Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Beyblade, but my favorite would have to go to Bakugan just because of how flawed, cheesy, yet influential it has been. My siblings and I used to hold tournaments and get-togethers for the game, and we still make gag jokes about it today! It’s an obscure show that aired in like what, 2006 or something? I can’t even remember, but it was the highlight of my elementary school days.

  1. Ramen or Sushi?

While I admire the unique, higher-quality tastes that come from sushi, ramen is cheap, and I eat it like every other day, so ramen! :3

  1. What is the most typical anime genre you end up watching a lot?

Ho oh, a good question! Typically I end up watching shows with a little more scientific thinking behind them. It’s not really its own genre, so-to-speak, but more of a subcategory. They are shows that either A) explain themselves with science or fact of the land or B) sound “sciency” enough. With its very broad and vague listings, shows IMO include: Railgun, Evangelion, Steins;Gate (Science Adventures Series), Psycho-Pass, No.6, Guilty Crown and many more.

  1. What anime character do you feel you relate to a lot?

Mikoto Misaka – a very talented girl who happens to have the whole world depend on her during very tough, complex situations. She’s gifted in her abilities, being one of seven Level 5 Espers in existence, but she doesn’t want that; Misaka just wants to escape the harsh reality she has created and venture off with her friends, wherever that leads them.

I also have to point out Shu Ouma, an ill-fated boy who has to deal with a lot of crap despite being a major introvert. Forced to make friends, take lives, and lead the rebellion to the world’s end, he lives through hell, kinda like my life (but on a much smaller scale, obviously). Similarly, he’s shy, clumsy, but caring nonetheless.

  1. What ending of an anime would you change if you had the chance too?

Oh my, another great question! I would love to change the ending to Sword Art Online Season One, and particularly the second arc because of all the hate it gets. SAO is great, but because of that darned second half, everyone loves to bash the whole franchise. I would have sought a more tragic ending (where either Asuna or more likely Kirito dies), though maybe not the correct one. For a show of its caliber – go out with a terrifying bang, not with sprinkles of fairy dust. Geez!

  1. What do you love to see in a blog?

While I seek impressive reviews and in-depth conversation, I really love seeing personality and happiness of the blogger shine through for a brief moment, the flash away. Though I don’t think he’s a blogger, GRArkada of Glass Reflection anime reviews on YouTube is my prime example. His posts/videos are extremely well-written and thought out, and he thinks of his own personal enjoyment while reviewing, but doesn’t anyone want to know more about him? I do, be it a haul video, more vlogs, personal anime life, heck, even a room tour – I don’t care! I just love seeing the bits of one’s personality briefly sprinkled throughout writing. It’s also easier to read that way!

That’s all for LitaKino, now for Chibi Majo’s questions:

  1. What got you interested in the things you blog about?

Well let’s see, I blog about anime and anime reviews, so what got me into reviewing? Watching YouTube reviews was a major influence, but wanting my own voice out there regarding anime was the strongest push. I wanted to finally join the crowd and even go against it at times – it’s much better than standing on the sidelines, trust me!

  1. Favorite food?

I believe I’ve answered this question sometime way back when, but currently, it’s rice! It goes well with about anything and I know how to make it so, what the hay – rice for nearly every meal! I also love fruit like watermelon, pineapple, and grapes, but I’m not a big meat eater, so you won’t find me at a restaurant with a juicy steak in front of me. Sawry >.<

  1. What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

I’ve recently taken up composing music, and that’s been a blast. I play the cello and I can accompany people on the guitar, too. I used to draw when I was younger, and so just two days ago I purchased a sketch pad so I can get back to it. Hopefully I’m better than I remember (eek!). I enjoy online shopping for anime merch/DVDs that I know I’ll never buy, as well as watching unboxing videos. For some weird reason, they are super relaxing!

  1. Random fact about you?

I’ve never been on a plane nor a boat, so I hope to go on at least one of them this summer, fingers crossed.

  1. Favorite animal?

This and favorite color are like the two most popular questions, but I have never had a favorite animal. I mean, I guess I like cats (booo), frogs and birds (pretty vague) . . . ?

  1. Ice cream or cake?

Cake OMG! Fun fact, the only reason I go to weddings is pretty much for the cake! SOOOO delicious, exquisite, and beautiful.

  1. What got you into anime?

I’m actually going to write a Cafe Talk about this question. Let’s just say it was a combined effort of Ghibli, Ranma 1/2, Pokemon, Symphonia, and . . . hentai??? Stay tuned.

I hope you enjoyed my answers and parts of my anime/life story! I once again extend my thanks to LitaKino and Chibi Majo for the nommie and the fun questions :). I also say hello and welcome to a new follower recently. Until next time, this has been

Ray of Sunshine! (Sunshine Award)

Just yesterday morning I woke up to a normal, hot summer day, that is, until I found out that I’ve been nominated again, but this time, for the Sunshine Award!! I can’t say anything else, however, until I extend my thanks to Shiroyuni over at “thelimitlessimagination.” She’s not only a great blogger friend but she writes very, very interesting posts, so please check out “thelimitlessimagination” if you haven’t already!

Paraphrased from Shiroyuni herself, the Sunshine Blog Award is given to those who exhibit positive attitude and “creatively influence” other bloggers. To the questions!

  1. Do you think you’ll ever stop blogging? If yes, why and if no, why not?

Ooh, this is a hard one to answer, considering that I do not know what the future holds in store for me. While I can’t give a straight answer, I can confirm that I’m not going anywhere for the time being. In fact, it’s summer – I should be blogging more!

  1. How do you juggle between real life and blogging commitments?

I don’t, haha. I’ve always lived by “work first, play later,” so that’s what I do. I’m not sure if I would call that juggling real life or squeezing in whatever free time I can for blogging, well, that and anime >.< I won’t lie, it’s a pretty hard task, and that’s why these awards are such a good idea – let peoples’ work get noticed and the appreciation they deserve! Go anibloggers!!

  1. Do you let people you know in real life read your blog? If yes, why and if no, why not?

My blog is one of my most heavily guarded secrets known only to those dwelling on the interwebs, haha! Even though it will probably never happen, I want one of my friends to be on the web, find my blog and go, “Woah, this is pretty neat,” cause then I could say, “Hah, I am Takuto, and welcome to my cafe!” (*sigh* I’ll probably just tell them in a couple months or something)

  1. What anime / manga / movie / TV series character do you resemble the most, in terms of personality?

This right here was easily the hardest question. I want to say Oreki from Hyouka, as I’ve heard about his personality, but I’ve never watched the anime so I can’t confirm that 😦 If I had to pick, though, I’d go with Mikoto Misaka from A Certain Scientific Railgun. Even though she’s a girl, we both have this facade of being high class and pretentious when we’re actually down to Earth and relatable. Misaka is unyielding to challenges and always performs tasks with such unwavering dignity. She’s kind, a bit selfish at times, but is always looking out for others. We also both have secret hobbies (fu fu fu :3)

  1. What is the biggest concern you have right now?

My biggest concern right now is my future career. I don’t really know what I want to do yet, and I’m crunching down on time. Yeesh, scary! I need to get a job . . .

  1. Name one virtue/value that you think is extremely important and why.

To me, honoring integrity is incredibly important. I was once told that if someone was to describe another with only one word, “integrity” was the best thing they could say. It’s one of the heaviest values and it encompasses other virtues like honesty and uprightness/dignity. Truly an honorable value!

And now for a few people whom I nominate, as they are all great, positive influences in the anime blogging community:

50 Followers Q&A Responses

HELLO EVERYONE! After one week of waiting, I have returned with a clear head, ready to answer your questions!

From mirrorpurple:

“Who ye waifu?”

Haha, ok, so I realize that you can pretty much only have one, and cheating on her would be considered very disrespectful, but at this moment in time, I have two: Saber (Fate/Zero) and Sinon (SAO II). In terms of respect, it’s definitely Saber – I bow down, trust me. But if I were to chill with another girl, I think Sinon’s pretty awesome.

From Lovely:

“What’s your favorite anime of all time? Any places you want to go someday?”

Hontou ni?? Of all time? I could never pick, as it depends on my mood. Buuuuut, Steins;Gate does tend to gravitate towards my top five every time . . . that and Railgun, and Fate/Zero . . . Kill la Kill‘s pretty rad, and I’m an Eva-boy . . . >.<

As for places, Japan of course! But that’s with every anime fan. I think it’d be neat to visit an Irish castle or go shopping in China. I’ve always liked castles and such, and China just seems like a cool place.

From LitaKino:

“What was a funny thing that happened of when you were younger? What do you aim to be in your life work wise? Whats your favorite food?”

I guess this one’s kinda anime-related, but whatever: When I was younger, my mom would always take us to our Dillons food store, because back then, they had a movie-rental area where we’d rent stuff all the time. Probably my first anime (besides like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh), she rented a random DVD of Ranma 1/2 for us. For those who don’t know, Ranma is full of straight-up boob flashes, so when the first one was revealed on our TV, my siblings and I just cried laughing, while my mom was just giggling and blushing! Sadly the rental section went out of business, but when they closed they let us buy the DVD for like a dollar. It currently sits on my sister’s shelf with the Dillons casing and everything, a memento of childhood. 🙂

Work-wise, I’m not quite sure yet – it’s been the big question since I started my anime hobby. I do great academically, and am talented in the arts, but yeah, still not sure . . .

Favorite food? Anything with rice. Seriously, anything!

From The Otaku Judge:

“Which anime has the most disappointing ending?”

Ah man, I can’t choose the most disappointing, but I do have one in mind. Also, I’m going to interpret this question as “most un-fullfilling” ending instead. My award for a very “disappointing ending” goes to Black Bullet (check out my review!). I fell in love with it, hoping it would be a new fav, but instead it deteriorated like a creaky, rusty gate. Not good.

And I guess that’s all! Yup! Thanks for asking your questions and of course thanks for following, liking, and supporting my lil’ blog. Become a cafe-goer today buy clickin’ the follow button on the right! Now, I’m shooting for 100 followers! Until next time, this has been
