Second Time Around (Sunshine Award)

Hey everyone, I’m back!

I have been nominated again by LitaKino and Chibi Majo for the Sunshine Award, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart as great bloggers and as even greater people. But more so, seeing the comments from my update and reading these nominations have made me realize something: I have friends, and I am thankful for that now more than ever.

When I started, I had one or two customers walk in, but then wonder back out only to be unsatisfied with my material. Now, however, all you guys waltz in, check out my reviews and other posts, and even chat with me a bit. I’m a small blog, and I know that this is a small (but surely growing) aniblogger community, but in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve realized that there’s a lot of heart behind each and every one of you – more than what our words in our posts can say!

So once again (sorry for the sappy speech), I extend my thanks to LitaKino and Chibi Majo for nominating me, but also for reminding me as to why I blog. Now, let’s laugh together and answer these questions, shall we!?

Since I’ve already nominated several others in my first post, and because I’m incredibly lazy, I’m just going to relax and answer the questions, sound good?

From LitaKino:

  1. What have you found blogging has bought to you?

FRIENDS! My writing has improved and I notice all of the minuscule details in anime, sure, but nothing beats good company! I have also begun to analyze works more efficiently instead of just tossing out praise like Halloween candy: credit is given where credit is deserved.

  1. What was your favorite childhood show growing up

Growing up, I watched Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Beyblade, but my favorite would have to go to Bakugan just because of how flawed, cheesy, yet influential it has been. My siblings and I used to hold tournaments and get-togethers for the game, and we still make gag jokes about it today! It’s an obscure show that aired in like what, 2006 or something? I can’t even remember, but it was the highlight of my elementary school days.

  1. Ramen or Sushi?

While I admire the unique, higher-quality tastes that come from sushi, ramen is cheap, and I eat it like every other day, so ramen! :3

  1. What is the most typical anime genre you end up watching a lot?

Ho oh, a good question! Typically I end up watching shows with a little more scientific thinking behind them. It’s not really its own genre, so-to-speak, but more of a subcategory. They are shows that either A) explain themselves with science or fact of the land or B) sound “sciency” enough. With its very broad and vague listings, shows IMO include: Railgun, Evangelion, Steins;Gate (Science Adventures Series), Psycho-Pass, No.6, Guilty Crown and many more.

  1. What anime character do you feel you relate to a lot?

Mikoto Misaka – a very talented girl who happens to have the whole world depend on her during very tough, complex situations. She’s gifted in her abilities, being one of seven Level 5 Espers in existence, but she doesn’t want that; Misaka just wants to escape the harsh reality she has created and venture off with her friends, wherever that leads them.

I also have to point out Shu Ouma, an ill-fated boy who has to deal with a lot of crap despite being a major introvert. Forced to make friends, take lives, and lead the rebellion to the world’s end, he lives through hell, kinda like my life (but on a much smaller scale, obviously). Similarly, he’s shy, clumsy, but caring nonetheless.

  1. What ending of an anime would you change if you had the chance too?

Oh my, another great question! I would love to change the ending to Sword Art Online Season One, and particularly the second arc because of all the hate it gets. SAO is great, but because of that darned second half, everyone loves to bash the whole franchise. I would have sought a more tragic ending (where either Asuna or more likely Kirito dies), though maybe not the correct one. For a show of its caliber – go out with a terrifying bang, not with sprinkles of fairy dust. Geez!

  1. What do you love to see in a blog?

While I seek impressive reviews and in-depth conversation, I really love seeing personality and happiness of the blogger shine through for a brief moment, the flash away. Though I don’t think he’s a blogger, GRArkada of Glass Reflection anime reviews on YouTube is my prime example. His posts/videos are extremely well-written and thought out, and he thinks of his own personal enjoyment while reviewing, but doesn’t anyone want to know more about him? I do, be it a haul video, more vlogs, personal anime life, heck, even a room tour – I don’t care! I just love seeing the bits of one’s personality briefly sprinkled throughout writing. It’s also easier to read that way!

That’s all for LitaKino, now for Chibi Majo’s questions:

  1. What got you interested in the things you blog about?

Well let’s see, I blog about anime and anime reviews, so what got me into reviewing? Watching YouTube reviews was a major influence, but wanting my own voice out there regarding anime was the strongest push. I wanted to finally join the crowd and even go against it at times – it’s much better than standing on the sidelines, trust me!

  1. Favorite food?

I believe I’ve answered this question sometime way back when, but currently, it’s rice! It goes well with about anything and I know how to make it so, what the hay – rice for nearly every meal! I also love fruit like watermelon, pineapple, and grapes, but I’m not a big meat eater, so you won’t find me at a restaurant with a juicy steak in front of me. Sawry >.<

  1. What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

I’ve recently taken up composing music, and that’s been a blast. I play the cello and I can accompany people on the guitar, too. I used to draw when I was younger, and so just two days ago I purchased a sketch pad so I can get back to it. Hopefully I’m better than I remember (eek!). I enjoy online shopping for anime merch/DVDs that I know I’ll never buy, as well as watching unboxing videos. For some weird reason, they are super relaxing!

  1. Random fact about you?

I’ve never been on a plane nor a boat, so I hope to go on at least one of them this summer, fingers crossed.

  1. Favorite animal?

This and favorite color are like the two most popular questions, but I have never had a favorite animal. I mean, I guess I like cats (booo), frogs and birds (pretty vague) . . . ?

  1. Ice cream or cake?

Cake OMG! Fun fact, the only reason I go to weddings is pretty much for the cake! SOOOO delicious, exquisite, and beautiful.

  1. What got you into anime?

I’m actually going to write a Cafe Talk about this question. Let’s just say it was a combined effort of Ghibli, Ranma 1/2, Pokemon, Symphonia, and . . . hentai??? Stay tuned.

I hope you enjoyed my answers and parts of my anime/life story! I once again extend my thanks to LitaKino and Chibi Majo for the nommie and the fun questions :). I also say hello and welcome to a new follower recently. Until next time, this has been

Ray of Sunshine! (Sunshine Award)

Just yesterday morning I woke up to a normal, hot summer day, that is, until I found out that I’ve been nominated again, but this time, for the Sunshine Award!! I can’t say anything else, however, until I extend my thanks to Shiroyuni over at “thelimitlessimagination.” She’s not only a great blogger friend but she writes very, very interesting posts, so please check out “thelimitlessimagination” if you haven’t already!

Paraphrased from Shiroyuni herself, the Sunshine Blog Award is given to those who exhibit positive attitude and “creatively influence” other bloggers. To the questions!

  1. Do you think you’ll ever stop blogging? If yes, why and if no, why not?

Ooh, this is a hard one to answer, considering that I do not know what the future holds in store for me. While I can’t give a straight answer, I can confirm that I’m not going anywhere for the time being. In fact, it’s summer – I should be blogging more!

  1. How do you juggle between real life and blogging commitments?

I don’t, haha. I’ve always lived by “work first, play later,” so that’s what I do. I’m not sure if I would call that juggling real life or squeezing in whatever free time I can for blogging, well, that and anime >.< I won’t lie, it’s a pretty hard task, and that’s why these awards are such a good idea – let peoples’ work get noticed and the appreciation they deserve! Go anibloggers!!

  1. Do you let people you know in real life read your blog? If yes, why and if no, why not?

My blog is one of my most heavily guarded secrets known only to those dwelling on the interwebs, haha! Even though it will probably never happen, I want one of my friends to be on the web, find my blog and go, “Woah, this is pretty neat,” cause then I could say, “Hah, I am Takuto, and welcome to my cafe!” (*sigh* I’ll probably just tell them in a couple months or something)

  1. What anime / manga / movie / TV series character do you resemble the most, in terms of personality?

This right here was easily the hardest question. I want to say Oreki from Hyouka, as I’ve heard about his personality, but I’ve never watched the anime so I can’t confirm that 😦 If I had to pick, though, I’d go with Mikoto Misaka from A Certain Scientific Railgun. Even though she’s a girl, we both have this facade of being high class and pretentious when we’re actually down to Earth and relatable. Misaka is unyielding to challenges and always performs tasks with such unwavering dignity. She’s kind, a bit selfish at times, but is always looking out for others. We also both have secret hobbies (fu fu fu :3)

  1. What is the biggest concern you have right now?

My biggest concern right now is my future career. I don’t really know what I want to do yet, and I’m crunching down on time. Yeesh, scary! I need to get a job . . .

  1. Name one virtue/value that you think is extremely important and why.

To me, honoring integrity is incredibly important. I was once told that if someone was to describe another with only one word, “integrity” was the best thing they could say. It’s one of the heaviest values and it encompasses other virtues like honesty and uprightness/dignity. Truly an honorable value!

And now for a few people whom I nominate, as they are all great, positive influences in the anime blogging community:

Adventures at Naka-Kon 2015 – My First Anime Convention!

For those who didn’t know, during March 13-15, I traveled to Overland Park, KS for Naka-Kon 2015. One month later, I am finally going to talk about it (whoops, gomennasai)! I had only heard rumors and watched videos about going to anime conventions – and now I was actually going to one! It felt like a crazy dream! Please enjoy my trip story ~

After purchasing passes, it was a long five-month wait of cosplay decision-making and Ebay searching, but I made out with a  Tennouzu First High School Uniform, otherwise known as Shu Ouma’s uniform from Guilty Crown. I chose Shu because to me, he is a relatable guy and one of my favorite anime characters.

Naka-Kon greeted us with rainbow hair, mobs of people, and the subtle hint of body odor, but I’ll never forget the many smiling faces. Everyone was so chill – it was awesome! I was standing in a room full of true friends, and I didn’t even have to know the names of anyone. We all loved anime and games, and that’s all that mattered.

The Sharaton Hotel Staff were also cool people. We thought our passes were day passes only, but the people at the front desk said they were for the whole weekend, and that we could stay another night if we needed to. We did. Also, they kept handing out free snacks to con-goers, and these weren’t just like “one cookie per person” scenarios – they were $1.00-sized free handouts that never ended. Like everyone else, my sister grabbed 6 packages of cookies and kept them until we were hungry mwahhahh!

My favorite event from the con was the first one we went to which, bright and early, was a Micah Solusod panel. I actually got to talk to Touma freakin’ Kamijou!! Taking questions from the few people that were there (cause it was very, very early), I bravely raised my hand and asked him “What is your favorite season in the Raildex franchise?” He not only answered [correctly] Railgun S, but he even specified his favorite scene [one of mine as well] which was the fight between Accelerator and Misaka with Touma. I’ll never forget his kind words.

Now, being the prepared person that I am, I googled what voice actors and guests would be there for signings so that I could grab my merch. Micah Solusod signed my LE A Certain Magical Index while my brother snagged the DVD case inside just so that he could have something signed, too. Nice 🙂 Micah was awesome – one of my new favorite VAs – and has encouraged me to watch the infamous Soul Eater, of which I am currently 36 episodes into.

Index final

After him, I got to meet with Matthew Mercer who signed the mini-poster that came with the Fate/Zero Complete 1st Season DVD as Kiritsugu Emiya. This guy was so chill compared to Micah, who was a little antsy guy walking all around! He was super nice and talked with me for a bit. When we came back later so that my brother could have his new wall scroll signed, I asked what he would say as Levi to Eren, and he wrote it down for me. (That’s just our little secret, tho :3)

Matthew

(a little subject/verb agreement problem there, but when you’re Saber’s master and an ace with the guns, I won’t complain :D)

Next was a special man. Greg Ayres voices Negi from Negima!? – the first anime I had ever seen back in 2012. His roles like Taichi Yaegashi from Kokoro Connect and Shion from No.6 are for some reason very inspirational to me. He was shocked to see my old Negima! Complete Series Collection, and we talked for a bit about the character Negi and a few of his new roles, including Makoto Isshiki from Chu-2! He’s a legend in my book, and I was most glad I could meet him!

Negi Final

My last signing was a bit of a pain. You see, in all three lines we waited for about 30 minutes to guarantee spots in the front – which we got. The signs were misleading, and everyone from the supposed Patrick Seitz line was in the wrong place. When we moved over to the right line, we were dead last, with only a few stragglers who joined later. 2-3 hours later after bonding with everyone in my part of the line, I got to meet the John Titor from Steins;Gate, one of my all-time favorite anime. Though our chat was brief, the line of friendship was rewarding, and I actually feel like had leveled-up or something! LOL

SG FINAL

Last thing to mention was the dealer’s room and the artist alley, which was mixed together and overflowing with anime goodness! There was literally so much stuff that I wanted – that I had searched for on YouTube, Ebay and Amazon – that were now within my grasp: Nendoroids, Figmas, manga, DVDs and Blu-Rays . . . Unfortunately, I only had $70.00 saved up, which don’t get me wrong, is still a great amount of spending money, but like anything more money would have been better. Here’s what I walked away with:

GGOAldnoah FINALPINS FINAL

The striking Sword Art Online “Gun Gale Online” print, the beautiful ALDNOAH.ZERO print, and the cute Akatsuki, Shiroe, and Hange pins were done up by Cindy C. (cindiq.deviantart.com). I purchased these because I enjoyed the bright color palettes used, the neat backgrounds, and most of all the style the faces were drawn in. I originally only bought the Akatsuki pin, but the girl remembered me from the previous day and let me pick up the other two for a discount. Nice!

Steins GateNGNL

This Steins;Gate and No Game No Life “Human Potential” prints were designed by Cheng (Lily) Li (lilythescorpio.deviantart.com). I decided to buy these because I really like the soft pastel texture, the creative design, and the bright colors. They both compliment their respective show quite well.

SAO ScrollPMMM Scroll

I picked up these two wall scrolls because a) I’ve always wanted one and b) I love the art. They’re just the main posters you could find through an image search, but I think the fabric material and the giant size blend better in my room. Gosh, Aincrad looks soo cool and the Madoka Magica scroll is just a spectacle to behold! They both remind me of the incredible journeys I had with each anime.

Saori

Last but certainly not least is this the famous otaku Saori “Bajeena” from Oreimo, one of my favorite characters from the series. She was only $5.00 and looks great on my anime shelf. I especially love the fact that behind her swirl glasses, you can see her blue-green eyes. Subtle yet well-worth-it effect!

Of course I took many, many, many pictures with different cosplayers who were amazing! One guy cosplaying as Shiroe from Log Horizon let me take a picture with him and let me sign a real scroll, signifying that I was a part of the “Log Horizon Guild!” Just knowing that I among the few other names were part of his guild . . . that was one of the best moments!

Going to Naka-Kon 2015 with my family not only opened me up to the anime community but also to the world. I got to briefly meet with so many interesting people – I only wish that I had never left!! But boy was I tired by the end. Comment below what your first convention experience was like, because the one word to describe mine was “unforgettable.” Thanks so much for reading and thank you to all who made Naka-Kon such a great, fun time! Until next time, this has been

I’ve Been Nominated!? (Liebster Award)

A while back I was nominated for the Liebster Award, and I’m now finally following through with what that entails. Before I start, I would like to thank anyone who has stopped in and read my material, commented, liked, and even followed since I started. A special thanks goes to LitaKino, for without her, I would not be writing this post. Thanks LitaKino!

To the questions!!

  1. What made you start your anime blog?

Well, I’ve always wanted a small café or business, the kind where everyone knows each other, etc. I honestly want to start a YouTube channel, as videos are easier to watch and tend to attract more customers 😉 but I thought I’d start solid with a blog first, then build up from there if I got more into it. The blog also functions as a file for my anime adventure through time and space, logging my exact opinions the moment I finish a show!

  1. Ice cream or pie?

Ice cream for sure – I always like picking at a good ol’ slice of pie, but for some reason I can never finish it!

  1. What is the most expensive thing anime-wise you have bought?

If we’re talking single items, then that would be Sentai Filmwork’s recent Collector’s Edition release of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, which cost me about $80.00. For complete series, I own Aniplex of America’s DVD release of Fate/Zero Seasons 1 & 2, which cost me about $130.00. Both totally worth the purchase though!

  1. What other hobbies do you have?

I collect anime, play the cello, competitively swim, and read, write, draw, and play guitar on the side. I’m never bored.

  1. What is your current opinion on how the world is?

Preface stage. There is a lot of tension building up everywhere, good and bad, and I know it’s leading up to something terrifyingly gigantic that will change our world on a global scale . . .

  1. Do you have a favorite genre of anime you like to watch?

I really enjoy intense psychological thrillers that change my perspective on the world. But after watching them, I force myself to watch something fluffy or slice-of-life afterwords. They both come hand-in-hand.

  1. Is there an anime character you really would like to cosplay?

Too many to count! Eren Yeager (Attack on Titan), Saber (Fate/Zero), Shion (No.6) and the list goes on. However, I will be wearing a Tennouzu First High School uniform from Guilty Crown as a casual cosplay for Shu Ouma!

  1. What is one anime thing you are stalking to buy currently?

Log Horizon: Collection 1 on Blu-ray. It will be mine.

  1. Do you think wordpress is an easy blog site to use?

I’ve never been good with web design stuff, so considering that I’m finding my way around it quite well must count for something!

  1. Do you have any favorite anime reviewers you love to follow?

I love to follow all of my followers and then some on this blog! On YouTube, the infamous Arkada of Glass Reflection. He’s been an idol for a while now. I also enjoy stalking Slightly Otaku from YouTube with their anime unboxings and hilarious thoughts.

  1. Do you have an anime crush?

I’d be lying if I said no, but I’d be a hooker if I said yes because I crush on everyone boy and girl LOL. Sinon (SAO II), Saber, are to name a few . . . I’ll save the rest for a later date 😉

Facts about me!!

  1. I’ve always wanted a YouTube channel, but I’ve never started for some reason
  2. I tend to like most of all things related to anime – Yaoi not “un-included”
  3. If you do not stop me – I will buy it
  4. While I run this little café, I actually don’t care much for straight-up coffee. It’s good, sure, but yeah
  5. I’d be willing to sacrifice possessions, memories, and even a few people (I’m not crazy I swear!!) just for a long rainy day
  6. If I could be in any anime I’d be in A Certain Scientific Railgun’s Academy City as an esper
  7. I occasionally enjoy chick-flicks, my favorite being Monster In Law
  8. When I eventually do, I want die EPICALLY (again, not crazy at all)
  9. I do this little Anime Movie Theater with my siblings where I pick 5 to 10 shows, print posters, they buy tickets that fund the anime I buy, and we watch them together >.< otakus unite! The next Theater Premiere is this summer and it’ll probably be one of our last 😥
  10. I’ve been trying to write my own light novel series, as I can draw, but a manga would take forever. Like the Survey Corps and the Titans, I’m fighting a losing battle
  11. I love wedding cake and Steins;Gate is real.

Heads up, I will recommend these people regardless of them having 1,000 followers or not.

And now for a few people whom I nominate, as they deserve to be read from more often:

Danineko’s Otaku Blogthe cute blog of a South African otaku

The Otaku Judgea reviewer with truthful things to be said about a variety of shows

tcondon1 “review all the things” great day-by-day episode reviews

Rocco Bthough they’re not anime I’m watching, humorous episode reviews and just overall thoughtful

Happy Valentine’s Day: You Are (Not) Alone

Minna san, konnichi wa!

As you all know, V-day is tomorrow, and I want to wish all of you a happy day full of love, family, friends and food! 🙂

I have been reserving this weekend to tackle one of anime’s most confusing titles, Neon Genesis Evangelion. I plan to watch the series first, then the End of Evangelion movie, and finally the remake movies, which I am most excited for. To be honest, I don’t really want to watch the series, just the movies, but hey, I better view this classic to its entirety!

For those who have seen it, do you have to watch the series? Or can you skip to the movies without losing too much detail? So puzzling!

Thank you to all of my new followers – you guys are the best! Also, thanks for reading my anime reviews – I greatly appreciate it! Happy Valentine’s Day from Takuto’s Anime Cafe, and until next time, this has been

Having a Me-Day

I woke up at the crack of dawn today to audition for ridiculous All State Orchestra, and let me tell you – it’s been a long day. I’m gonna relax now with a new anime I started on Crunchyroll, Black Bullet, while indulging myself in homemade cupcakes and Keurig brand cafe mocha. Sure it’s not gourmet, sue me, cause I’m having a me-day 😉

Winter Holiday Haul 2014

Hi everyone! I hope you are having happy holiday season! This year, I valued quality over quantity, so here is my holiday anime and game haul. Enjoy~

image5

First up are the two gift items for my sister and brother. Betcha can tell who got what, right? Both Princess Jellyfish and Blue Seed were bought from Rightstuf.com as part of their holiday sale.

image4

These games were bought from GameStop as part of their “buy 2 used get 1 free” sale. I was excited to see that they had a copy of Hyperdimension Neptunia, and I went ahead and picked up Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch because I thought it looked neat a while back. Journey was an inspired buy from YouTuber “Lucahjin” and her “Let’s Play” over it. I gave it to my older brother since he was the one who showed it to me.

image1

This was a random pick-up, as it looked funny as hell. Marathoned the whole thing and even wrote a review about it, so check it out!

image3

One of FUNimation’s “staff picks” was Psycho-Pass from the writer of Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero – Gen Urobuchi. With $20.00 for each part on Cyber Monday, it was a must-buy. I’ve seen part one so far and am drawn in, so expect a review on it soon!

image2

The final items of my haul are Fate/Zero Seasons 1&2. I have been debating for the past several weeks about whether I should get the ridiculous blu-ray priced ones or the lesser DVD versions. Well I am proud to say that even in DVD Fate/Zero does not disappoint, and the dub is soooo good. Expect a review from one of my favorite anime here soon as well! Definately worth the buy 😀

And that’s all! Did you get any new anime or games this winter season, if so, what? Leave a comment below and until next time, this has been

I’ve come across many ways to rate anime and have drafted this one through those trials. Some were just too cut or harsh and made me sound like I either loved the series or hated it, while others were so complex that I would have probably been better off just watching the series. This system might change over time, but for my first few reviews this will be my tool of judgement.

Anime will be rated by: Plot, Characters, Soundtrack, Animation, whether it was Entertaining and its Impact on me afterwards. These seven categories will be rated with a number between 0 and 10, one decimal place included. The final tally will be given two decimal places, just for intricacy. As a side note, a rating of “5,” though not recommendable, is not bad, but average.

– Host

Welcome!

With this being my first post, I should probably tell you about what this all is. From here on out, I will be your Host at the Anime Cafe. I will bring to you virtual coffee and cakes in the form of reviews and more! Anime became a big time hobby for me in the spring of 2012. While I haven’t been around for long, I have picked up on many of the classic references and gimmicks, which I use often in my daily life but sadly no one else gets :). I will be posting reviews on the anime that I have seen since 2012 to the present – and to the future! Why? I want to persuade others to picking up on a few titles, as there may be something you like but you just need that extra uff to go watch it. Additionally, I find blogging exciting and new! I have been wishing to do this for a long time. I hope you find my young writing down-to-earth and worth your time, as I am only an amateur writer who just fanboys over the anime world. So without further ado, I will be bringing out my first review very soon, so please, take a seat, relax and enjoy everything I have to offer!

– Sincerely,

your Host
